The railway track between Chennai and Tuticorin ports, which was laid over a decade ago, would be replaced within the next six months, reported The Hindu.
The Madurai division of Southern Railways handled about 90 per cent of the cargo from the port city, according to A K Goel, divisional railway manager.
He said that the operations of the inland container depot at Koodal Nagar would be revived and expanded.
