DHL has expanded the freight management operations of its Global Forwarding arm in Penang, to provide customers with value-added services. Key to this is a newly opened, integrated, one-stop facility at Penang's new central cargo hub, Kompleks Kargo Udara Kedua (KLAS).
The KLAS facility is located on the east side of Penang airport to combine air freight export, import, warehousing and cross-border road freight operations under one roof. The benefits to customers include access to multiple logistics solutions, faster turnaround times and improved cost efficiencies, a company statement said.
Global Forwarding has invested over MYR1 million (US$319,335) in KLAS, its fourth facility in Penang, thereby expanding its operational footprint by 20 per cent from 3,910 square metres to 4,640 square metres
KLAS comprises a built-up area of 734 square metres, of which 557 square metre is dedicated to warehousing and operations, and the other 185 square metres to offices.
Africa and South Asia Pacific CEO Amadou Diallo said: "The business landscape in Penang demands an operation which is flexible, integrated and value-adding with close proximity to clients."
DHL Global Forwarding's operations in Penang now include four processing facilities with three on Penang island (including KLAS) and one ocean freight office on mainland Penang. "With the KLAS facility, customers also enjoy cost avoidance in areas such as re-docking, towing and gate-opening charges. Further cost-optimisation will also result from lower import terminal charges and the consolidation of cross-border road freight under one roof," it said.
