KUEHNE + NAGEL has held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction of a new distribution centre in Germany's Duisburg's port area. In a third expansion phase the company plans to enlarge its warehousing facilities in Duisburg's Logport by 28,000 square metres.
It is expected that Kuehne + Nagel will start operations in the new distribution centre for a "large customer" from the consumer healthcare industry from May 2011.
"This engagement underlines Duisburg's importance in Kuehne + Nagel's worldwide network. It documents as well the value of the long standing, reliable collaboration," said Duisburger Hafen CEO Erich Staake.
Said Hans George Brinkmann, who heads German Kuehne + Nagel's German and central European operations: "Duisburg has proven itself as a central European logistics hub. Including the new facility we will have 150,000 square metres warehousing space under management. Multinational customers benefit here from tailor made contract logistics solutions and innovative distribution concepts."
