Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov admitted Tuesday quotas for grain exports were now a possibility.
"By the end of the week, the government will count the amount of grain stocked. Next week, we will make a decision on whether to introduce quotas for grain exports or not," Azarov said at a briefing.
Azarov has earlier said the government would not restrict grain exports "as the country was well supplied with grain for domestic demand."
The agriculture ministry has revised its forecast for the grain harvest from 40-41 million tons to 38.6 million, compared to 46 million in 2009.
Ukraine planned to export about 15 million tons of grain this season.
