Chongqing plans to up water, air and rail volume in five years

CHONGQING, on the upper reaches of the Yangtze, expected to rise its water freight annual capacity to two million TEU in five years, up more than 550 per cent compared to the estimated 360,000 TEU capacity by the end of 2010.


In air freight, the city has planned to expand the annual capacity to one million tonnes then. Its Jiangbei International Airport has completed the construction of second runway, two cargo terminals and a new expansion project.


Its annual rail throughput will exceed 480,000 TEU in five years, surpassing the estimated 7,000 TEU by the end of 2010, said the report.
