The UK-based Virgin Atlantic Cargo has appointed a dedicated sales team in Johannesburg in place of its South African-based general sales agent ACP Worldwide appointed in 1996, according to the Shipping Gazette.
The new team will be headed up by Laurn Baldwin as regional sales manager in South Africa ahead of anticipated seasonal demand between Cape Town and London Heathrow Airport on October 31 and since the launch of a twice-weekly flight from Johannesburg to Melbourne and high customer demand expected on daily services between Johannesburg and London.
Ms Baldwin's five years experience at ACP Worldwide on the Virgin account, and at Aireps, representing Gulf Air, Air Canada, Cathay Pacific, Balkan Airlines, Air Namibia and Aero Zambia will keep consistency and focus.
"Even though ACP have represented us fantastically over the last 13 years, we feel that now is the right time to take our presence in the South African market to the next level by employing our own dedicated "Virgin People", who will be ambassadors for the outstanding service culture and customer experience that is at the very heart of Virgin," said Virgin Atlantic Cargo vice president in an Air Transport News report.
"This, along with V Australia's new flights from South Africa to Australia, marks the start of a new era for us in South Africa," he added.
