NORTHWEST AIRLINES, once Minneapolis based and now part of Atlanta's Delta Airlines, has agreed to plead guilty to fixing prices on air-cargo shipments and pay a US$38 million criminal fine, reported the Wall Street Journal.

The US Justice Department announced that Northwest Airlines Cargo was engaged in a conspiracy to fix prices for shipments on routes between the America and Japan from July 2004 until February 2006.

Northwest Airlines Cargo conspired to fix air cargo rates in the United States and overseas, the Justice Department said. The plea agreement is subject to court approval in Washington, DC. Northwest Airlines Cargo earned more than $80 million from air cargo services during the time covered by the plea agreement, the Justice Department said.
