A MAJOR box depot firm, Container Connections (M) Sdn Bhd, has opened a new MYR8 million (US$2.5 million) terminal in Northport, Malaysia.
With its regional expansion plans extending to 2012, the Singapore-based firm provides logistics services to domestic and international shipping sectors.
"Container Connections brings a fresh approach to depot services, acting as liaison between the end-user and the liners. Our goal is increased flexibility, and greater value, thus optimising system functionality," said Container Connections general manager Razak Rahman.
The company's services encompass storage, cleaning, repair, modification, sales and leasing of containers to fit specific client needs. Typically, Container Connections is on-site at all times when needed.
The company currently owns three depots, Container Connections (S) Pte Ltd (Singapore), SL Container Terminal (M) Sdn Bhd (Pasir Gudang, Malaysia) and Container Connections (M) Sdn Bhd (Port Klang, Malaysia).
By September 2010, a fourth depot on an eight-acre plot of land in Westport at Port Klang will have commenced operations, enhancing the group's depot services in the region.
Further local and regional expansion plans in the pipeline consist of opening depots in Kuantan and Penang in Malaysia, Bangkok and Laemchabang in Thailand, and Surabaya and Jakarta in Indonesia by 2012.
Container Connections (M) Sdn Bhd was incorporated in November 2009. Its current depot covers an area of land measuring 12 acres, able to accommodate 9,800 TEU. Equipped with an advanced depot management system, the facility is able to provide fast documentation and up-to-date status reports allowing customers maximum flexibility.
