2008-04-24 00:00:00

Airliner lessor Aviation Capital Group has placed an order for 17 Boeing 737s in the firm抯 eighth purchase commitment from the Chicago-based aircraft manufacturer in two years.

At current list prices, the deal announced Monday would be worth more than $1 billion, though sizable discounts are not uncommon on large orders. According to a Boeing statement, the order is for Boeing 737-800s with options to convert to 737-700s or 737- 900s.

Boeing had previously attributed the order to an unidentified customer on the manufacturer's Web site.

Including the new order, Newport Beach, Calif.-based Aviation Capital has ordered 81 Boeing aircraft, including 76 767s and five 787s. Aviation Capital's 129-aircraft portfolio comprises a mix of Boeing and Airbus aircraft.
