THE American Association of Railroads (AAR) reported US intermodal traffic reached its highest increase since November 2008 at 227,985 units in period of a week ending June 19, a 21.2 per cent jump year on year with container volume and trailer volume spiking 23.3 per cent and 10.5 per cent respectively.
Carloads gains came in at 284,913 in the week up 9.2 per cent year on year but down 10 per cent compared to 2008 said AAR, with eastern railroads up by 12.2 per cent year on year and in the West by 7.2 per cent. Volumes compared to 2008 for east and West were down by 15.8 per cent and 5.6 per cent. Container volume compared to two years previous was still up at 8.8 per cent but trailer fell 32.8 per cent.
Figures for the year so far experienced a 7.2 per cent leap year on year but compared to 2008 a drop of 13.4 per cent as with trailers and containers year on year up by 11.7 per cent from 2009 but down 7.3 per cent two years previous.
