ST PETERSBURG Big Port handled 550,206 TEU, up 43.7 per cent year on year from January through April with volume increasing 16 per cent to 15,752.392 tons according to Russian Transport Daily Report.
Container turnover for the period increased over 3.2 times compared to the same period in 2008 driven by general cargo increases of 18 per cent and ferrous and nonferrous metals volumes up 13 percent and 15 per cent respectively.
Stevedores handled products were driven by a volume jump in mineral fertiliser by 55 per cent to 1,498,200 tons.
During the four month reporting period deep drops in ore by 41 per cent, packaged piece at 24 per cent, timber cargo by 35 per cent and grain by 15 per cent.
Oil products, coal and coke and refrigerated cargo dropped by eight per cent in the reported period.
