Idle cell ships back in service, lay-ups shrink to 5.3pc

THE month of May recorded the lowest idle ratio recorded since January 2009 at 5.3 per cent of the total cellular fleet laid-up with 192,000-TEU recalled to resume suspended services or deployed on new loops.

The Paris-based Alphaliner newsletter posted a total of 715,000 TEU laid up compared to 907,000 TEU laid up two weeks before May 10. This compared to November 2009 of 577 units idle to current 306.
