MACAU's airport handled 7,592 tons of outward air freight in the first quarter of 2010, an increase of 60 per cent compared to the same quarter a year earlier, according to the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
The main destination of Macao's outward cargo was Taiwan, accounting for 71 per cent of the total, reports Xinhua.
Inward air cargo during the first quarter soared by 87 per cent to 4,110 tons, with freight imported from Taiwan comprising 86 per cent of the total. On the other hand, transit air cargo declined by 43 per cent year on year to 1,629 tons.
Commercial flight movements at the Macao International Airport decreased by four per cent in the first three months of the year to 8,956 tons of which Taiwan accounted for 38 per cent, the Chinese mainland, 25 per cent; Malaysia, nine per cent and Thailand for eight per cent.
