Tianjin air cargo throughput increased 51pc in first quarter

TIANJIN Binhai International Airport handled 50,100 tonnes of freight during the first quarter of this year, increasing 50.6 per cent year on year, accounting for 25 per cent of the annual target, Logistics Week reported.

The airport's passenger throughput went 25.4 per cent up to 1.6 million, taking up 23.1 per cent of its annual target.

If the airport can carry such growth, it is estimated to be able to secure its target of 200,000 million tonnes of cargo and seven million passengers by the end of this year.

In this period, the airport's daily throughput averaged at 556.2 tonnes, 187 tonnes more than the daily volume recorded in the same period in the preceding year.

Routes to Korea, Japan, Europe and Middle East remained the busiest in terms of cargo traffic in Tianjin airport, including Tianjin-Seoul, Tokyo-Tianjin-Osaka, Shanghai, Tianjin- Amsterdam on to Seoul, Tianjin-Frankfurt, Tianjin-Abu Dhabi. Each of these lines recorded an increase of more than 1,000 tonnes during the first three months. Aircraft movements on these services amounted to 1,490 flights, up 64.8 per cent. Cargo throughput increased 42.8 per cent to 29,400 tonnes.

Korean Air, Asiana, JAL, Great Wall Airlines and Yangtze River Express were the biggest contributors to the airport's cargo volume.
