TransContainer posts quarterly profit after 2009 loss

2010-04-29 00:00:00

RUSSIA's TransContainer first quarter net profit came to RUB19.7 million (US$675,120) against a net loss of RUB11 million in the fourth quarter of 2009, according to an Interfax News Agency report.

The company attributed the profit to a reduction in spending and measures on pricing policy together with a revival of the container market.

TransContainer is Russia's largest rail freight container operator with 60,000 ISO containers and more than 24,000 specialised flatcars, according to the company website. After JSC Russian Railways, the company is Russia's second largest operator of rail-side container terminals, which are located at 47 railway stations.

The company has 140 offices located throughout Russia and offers forwarding and logistics services in neighbouring states via a network of representative offices and agent companies.
