Seaspan takes delivery of 8,500-TEU ship

SEASPAN Corp has taken delivery of a new 8,500-TEU vessel in what marked the fifth addition this year to its now 47-ship fleet.

The Hyundai Heavy Industries-built ship has already been chartered to Cosco, which will operate it for 12 years under a fixed-rate agreement, American Shipper reported. Named the Cosco Philippines, the new containership is part of an eight-ship fleet of same-size Seaspan vessels.

The Vancouver-based lessor currently maintains 18 charter agreements with Cosco.
