The Port of Taicang, 64 kilometres up the Yangtze from Shanghai, has opened a fourth Japan service linking itself to Tokyo, Yokoama and Nagoya and operated by Chongqing Marine Shipping, reports Xinhua.
The weekly service, deploying two 670 TEU vessels, departs from Taicang port on Fridays and returns on Thursdays.
The port's first service to Japan launched by Shanghai Shimonoseki Ferry in September 2006, and then the second one by Cosco Ningbo and the third and fourth by Chongqing Marine Shipping. The port's throughput for the Japan service came to more than 5,900 TEU in the first quarter.
