2010-04-27 00:00:00

HONG KONG's Gammon Construction Limited and Hip Hing Construction Co Ltd have been awarded a HK$4.2 billion (US$5.4 million) to build the airport's new air cargo terminal by Cathay Pacific Services Ltd.

The building of the new 280,000-square metre terminal at Hong Kong airport will employ more than 1,000 workers at the peak of construction and is scheduled to open in 2013.

London's Balfour Beatty plc and Jardine Matheson each own 50 per cent of Gammon. Said Balfour Beatty CEO Ian Tyler: "We are delighted to have been awarded this contract to enhance Hong Kong's status as an international air freight hub."

Balfour Beatty was also involved in the construction of air terminal building in 1998, and the East Hall expansion structures and departure hall reconfiguration in 2004.
