São Paulo once again played host to the Brazilian and international transport sector from 6 - 8 April 2010, with around 45,000 trade fair visitors emphasising both the significance and scope of INTERMODAL SOUTH AMERICA. Amongst the approximately 490 exhibitors, Port of Hamburg Marketing (HHM) was also represented with a 40-square-meter joint booth.

For years, HHM member companies have been successfully presenting their range of services at international trade fairs under the common umbrella of the Port of Hamburg brand. The trade fair presentation at this year's INTERMODAL SOUTH AMERICA, with the Port of Hamburg joint booth as called for by the respective companies, also proved to be extremely popular. Participating in the representative HHM joint booth in São Paulo were BUSS Group GmbH & Co. KG, Polzug Intermodal GmbH, Saco Shipping GmbH, TCI International Logistics GmbH, TCO TRANSCARGO GmbH and TFG Transfracht International. The exhibiting companies deemed the joint trade fair presentation and visitor feedback to be highly successful and are already contemplating a repeat of this excellent trade fair representation in Brazil next year.

Participation in the trade fair in São Paulo illustrates the importance of import and export traffic concluded between the Port of Hamburg and Brazil. In terms of sea freight handling in Hamburg, Brazil ranks number 3 on the list of Hamburg's top trading partners with around 5.6 million tons. Of this figure, general cargo handling accounts for around 2.1 million tons. 2009 saw the handling of around TEU 167,000 of container transport between Brazil and Hamburg. In terms of imports, primarily iron ore, oilseeds, meat and raw coffee were imported from Brazil to Hamburg, while exports from Hamburg predominantly involved fertilizer, machinery, plant equipment, vehicles and chemical products. Every week, up to eight container-laden ships link the Port of Hamburg with ports in Brazil. In addition to full-container-load services, the Grimaldi shipping company also provides port customers with cargo holds for rolling and project freight on its ConRo vessels.
