APL records revenue, rate, volume increases into March

2010-04-09 00:00:00

SINGAPORE's Neptune Orient Lines recorded a year-on-year 37 per cent increase in container traffic to 189,000 FEU for its APL unit because of higher volumes from transpacific and intra-Asia trades for the four-week period to March 5.

APL throughput in January and February increased 52 per cent to 496,600 FEU. Average revenue per FEU was eight per cent up year on year because of improved freight rates and higher bunker recovery charges, marking the first time APL posted revenue growth since January 2009.

But despite the uptick, APL year-on-year revenue per FEU was still down two per cent - US$2,477 per cent FEU - with a volume of 496,600 FEU up 52 per cent in the first two months of the year.
