NORWAY's ro/ro carrier Hoegh Autoliners has appointed Hong Kong's Jardine Shipping Services as its southeast Asia agent, it was announced recently.

"Ten to 12 years ago, we had a very high level of activity in this area but after the tiger crisis, much of the cargo base disappeared. In 2009, we decided to take a closer look at certain markets. We were recently awarded new business out of the area and have already established two new services catering for exports," said Per Folkesson, Hoegh Autoliners' head of region south Asia, Oceania, Middle East and Africa.

"In trying to establish a first class service portfolio, we believe it is critical to have an agency network supporting us, which can provide regional synergies. In Jardine, we believe that we have found the right partner," said Mr Folkesson.

Said Jardine Shipping Services CEO Terence Sit: "From our network of offices across the region, we look forward to providing ro/ro customers with the exemplary levels of service and customer care for which Hoegh Autoliners is widely recognised."

Under the deal, Jardine will provide port agency, logistics, sales and customer services.

Hoegh Autoliners is an international provider of ro/ro vehicle transportation services with 1,350 employees, which globally operates 40 PCTCs (Pure Car and Truck Carriers) through a worldwide network of 33 offices in four regions. It transports around 1.5 million car equivalent units (CEU) every year.

Jardine Shipping Services is a subsidiary of the Jardine Matheson Group and has been in business for over 150 years. It offers liner agency, port agency, logistics and other shipping related services in the Asia Pacific region through its network of 59 offices.
