2010-04-07 00:00:00

Joint venture with existing agent Crescent begins operations April 6
MISC Berhad will open its own shipping agency in India as a joint venture with its existing third party agent, Crescent Shipping Agency India Ltd.

The new company, MISC Agencies India Pvt. Ltd., will start operating April 6.

The Malaysia-based carrier said the Indian unit will initially handle agency responsibilities at Mumbai and New Delhi, with Mumbai-based Crescent covering all other locations.

MISC connects the key ports of Jawaharlal Nehru (Nhava Sheva) and Pipavav on its independently-operated Halal Express Service with two loops. The weekly Halal Express, deploying a total of 12 vessels, covers the Far East, Southeast Asia, the Indian Subcontinent and the Middle East trade lanes.

The carrier, part of state-owned Petronas, recently launched the East India Container Service, linking Yangon, Myanmar, and Chennai, a major gateway on India’s east coast.
