First ultra green high performance super yacht of the Millennium

2010-03-29 00:00:00

Sauter Carbon Offset Design has announced the design of ‘Formula Zero’, a solar hybrid superyacht that is said to be faster, more spacious, more ergonomic and far greener than any power sailing super yacht to date.

Its carbon offset design harnesses sun, wind and wave energy to reduce green house gas (GHG) emissions by 75 to 100 percent.
Studies showed that these vessels can achieve a 75 to 100 percent reduction in GHG emissions by employing:

Hydro and aerodynamic advances in catamaran high-speed hull design
Azimuth diesel electric quadruple counter rotating propeller systems
Power sailing regeneration
State-of-the-art fully rotational wing sails
Maximum solar cell deployment
Energy efficient equipment
Energy management and maintenance
Lithium UPS
“To evaluate ‘Formula Zero’ as a carbon offset project, we compare a 43-metre catamaran with a 54-metre monohull which is similar in terms of performance, space and accommodations,” said Richard Sauter, Head of Design.

“While both vessels are evenly matched, when cruising for 24 hours, ‘Formula Zero’ consumes 4,000 litres less fuel, which amounts to a ten-tonne per day reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.
