GERMANY's Hamburg Sud has introduced a transhipment service via its hub in Cartagena, Colombia, for cargo movement between Europe and the west coast of the Americas.
Facilitated by an extension of the company's NAWC-Mexico route through Panama, the new service will tie up with Hamburg's existing transatlantic line operated in collaboration with Hapag-Lloyd.
Capacity for the joint venture, in anticipation of the new arrangements, was increased some 50 per cent by replacing the line's 2,700 TEU vessels with 4,100 TEU ships, Alphaliner reported.
The new service will link Hamburg, Tilbury, Rotterdam, and Antwerp in Europe with a number of ports across the Americas, including Vancouver, Seattle, Oakland, Long Beach, Manzanillo, Puerto Quetzal, Lazaro Cardenas and Manzanillo.
