Russian shipyards to be built with Korean, Singaporean aid

2010-03-03 00:00:00

CONSTRUCTION of joint Russian-South Korean and Russian-Singaporean shipyards in the Far East of Russia are slated for completion in the first quarter of 2012, about three months later than originally planned, reports Russia's Portnews News Agency.

It said that United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) and Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) have started developing a RUB45 billion (US$1.5 billion) shipyard in Russia's Primorsky Territory across Golden Horn Bay west of Vladivostok and near the Chinese and North Korean borders.

The shipyard is designed to build large ice-class vessels such as tankers, gas carriers, as well as drilling vessels and floating plants to produce liquefied natural gas.

This comes after USC signed an agreement with Singapore's Yantai Raffles in October 2009 to build another shipyard in the Russian Far East that will focus on building submersible and semi-submersible platforms and drilling equipment, the report added.
