Storm batters Horizon ship, boxes blown askew, six overboard

2010-01-28 00:00:00

THE 2,824-TEU Horizon Hunter limped into Honolulu, a dozen containers askew on the weather deck, after the vessel was hit by a three-day storm with 30-foot swells and winds up to 50 miles per hour, reported the Honolulu Advertiser.

The 730-foot, ship en route from Los Angeles to Guam, lost six containers, and several other boxes on deck were damaged, Horizon Lines said in a news release.

Horizon said there were no injuries and no hull damage. The ship docked at Hawaii Stevedores' terminal where US Coast Guard and state harbour personnel assisted in the removal of damaged containers and protect against leaks and spills.

The ship was expected to resume its voyage to Guam.
