Cosco Pacific reports uptick, liftings rise 1.2pc in December

HONG KONG-based Cosco Pacific increased liftings at the terminals it owns and operates by 1.2 per cent in December year on year with best results coming from in Guangzhou, Tianjin and Qingdao, but with Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hong Kong reporting declines.

Cosco Pacific's 17 Chinese and four international terminals rose to 3.92 million TEU in December from 3.87 million in December 2008. Among the international terminals, the Suez Canal Container Terminal saw volume hit a record high of 232,000 TEU, an increase of 11.9 per cent.

The company's Nansha facility at Guangzhou in the western side of the Pearl River, enjoyed an 18.7 per cent increase to 222,000 TEU in December with Tianjin gaining 13.6 per cent increase to 187,000 TEU.

Throughput at the two Qingdao terminals rose five per cent to 841,000 TEU. But its Shanghai terminals were off 17 per cent to 464,000 TEU while the Hong Kong terminal fell 13.8 per cent to 101,000 TEU, and declined 13.1 per cent at its Shenzhen/Yantian terminal to 749,000 TEU.
