ISRAELI shipping company Zim Integrated Shipping Services has held a naming ceremony for a 4,255-TEU newbuilding at the state-owned Jaya Container Terminal in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The Zim Colombo is expected to join the carrier's East Mediterranean Express (EMX) Service, bringing the total number of containerships used on this weekly fixed-day service to 11, reports Newark's Journal of Commerce. The newbuilding's participation in the EMX service will enable Zim to implement its "super slow-steaming" strategy that is intended to realise substantial fuel savings and significantly reduce CO2 and NOx emissions.
The port rotation for the EMX service is Busan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Shenzhen-Da Chan Bay, Port Kelang, Colombo, Suez Canal, Haifa, Ashdod, Izmit, Evyap Port, Novorossiysk, Constanta, Ambarli, Istan, Haifa, Suez Canal, Nhava Sheva, Colombo, Port Kelang, Shenzhen-Da Chan Bay, Xiamen, returning to Busan, offering a 68-day round-trip voyage.
