Nigeria's maritime industry demands more training

2009-12-10 00:00:00

THE Nigerian maritime industry is calling for more training in the wake of a two-day Maritime Safety Management Systems Auditor Training Course in Lagos, Nigeria organised by the International Register Training Institute (IRTI), a department of the International Register of Shipping (IRS).

Participants praised the IRS for taking the lead over other class societies by arranging to have its institute conduct maritime training courses in Nigeria.

The course, which addressed auditing under the International Safety Management Code (ISM Code), was conducted by two IRTI tutors.

Attending the course were 13 participants from the Nigerian maritime industry, including two officers from the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency.
