Hong Kong stocks close 1.44% lower

Hong Kong stocks lost 318.76 points, or 1.44 percent, to close at 21,741.76 on Wednesday.

Turnover rose to HK$74.53 billion (about $9.63 billion) from Tuesday's HK$68.46 billion (about $8.84 billion).
