Famous Pacific Shipping, an Asia-based NVOCC and freight services provider, has launched a weekly ocean freight consolidation service from Hong Kong to Odessa in the Ukraine.
According to Exim News Service, the service is intended to enable shippers to transport consignments onwards to Central and Eastern European destinations via the gateway port of Odessa.
Mr Iskandar Zulkarnain, Chairman of the FPS group’s Executive Committee, said in a statement, "Many of the competing forwarders in Asia will serve Central and Eastern Europe through Northern European gateways such as Hamburg and Rotterdam. This takes much longer, adding days to the transit time, and many of these companies also levy a high minimum charge per CBM (cubic metre) to a shipment.
"Our new service is not only quicker but we have also decided to have a lower minimum charge through Odessa, saving money for the shipper who wants to take advantage of the groupage rate, but is only sending a small consignment. We are sure the market in Asia, and especially Hong Kong, will embrace our faster and cheaper groupage service to Central Europe," he said.
FPS group members, FPS Hong Kong and FS Mackenzie, are working together to coordinate the new Black Sea service. FPS Hong Kong will act as a hub to consolidate shipments from across South East Asia and will then dispatch containerised consignments on a Thursday or Friday, as appropriate.
FS Mackenzie Ukraine, a subsidiary of FS Mackenzie in the United Kingdom, will forward consignments throughout the Ukraine and neighbouring countries.
