Container ship deliveries have been continuing with OOCL receiving the 4,578-TEU OOCL Nagoya that was built by South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries and is the 11th in a series of 16 ships ordered in several phases, starting from August 2004, the Shipping Gazette reports.
According to Alphaliner Weekly Newsletter, the newbuilding will be deployed on the Grand Alliance's Far East-US east coast SCE service, which it noted will be halted soon.
German ship owner Heinrich Juengerhans has taken in charge the Atlas J., which is said to be the first in a series of six 4,255-TEU container ships ordered from Hyundai Heavy industries in June 2007 by German interests linked to Muenchmeyer & Petersen (MPC).
The first two ships to arrive in the series, namely the Atlas J. and Merkur Horizon are reported to be chartered by Zim Integrated Shipping Services.
The Atlas J has been renamed the Zim Colombo and is expected to be deployed in the Far East-East Mediterranean Express Service (EMX). "She is the extra ship brought to this service that Zim decided to stretch by one week," the newsletter said.
Another German ship owner Oltmann Schiffahrt has taken delivery of the JPO Virgo, the second in a series of four x 4,252-TEU vessels built by Zhejiang Shipbuilding as part of an order that dates back to August 2006.
The JPO Virgo has been chartered by CSAV and will be deployed on the East Asia-Mexico-Caribbean-NCSA service operated jointly by CMA CGM, CSAV and CSCL under the respective service names of PEX 2, PACAR and AAE 2.
Finally, German ship owner Reederei Marten has taken delivery of the O M Lenitatis, the second of two x 1,304-TEU box ships ordered in November 2006 from the Weihai shipyard in China.
The vessel will be deployed on the Korea-China service (KSX) that is operated by her charterer Gold Star Line. The newsletter said the newbuilding will replace the 1,608-TEU Merkur Cloud, which will be joining the carrier's new Korea-China-Southeast Asia (ANX) service.
