Dubai-based logistics company GAC has acquired British shipping and logistics group OBC, the two companies said Thursday.
OBC will be rebranded as GAC-OBC and will continue to handle vessels in ports throughout the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and the U.S. Gulf Coast, where OBC has branch offices.
Besides giving us an important foothold in the port of Rotterdam and complementing our existing U.S. operation, OBC is strong in North Sea oil and gas, and this is a sector where GAC has long term development interests, said Lars Heisselberg, group vice president, GAC Shipping.
OBC was established in 1979 in Teesside in northeast England, focusing on offering agent services for tankers and liners, offshore logistics and freight forwarding. It has since added dry bulk operations, with the company handling around 7,000 port calls per year.
