LPG tanker raided in South China Sea

AN LPG tanker has been raided by armed men and the crew robbed of cash and other belongings in the South China Sea.

The men boarded a Singapore registered LPG tanker Sigloo Discovery on Saturday and made away with a laptop, two mobile phones, a wrist watch and cash.

The ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre said the six men, who climbed onboard from the stern, were armed with crowbars, batons and a butcher knife and had arrived in a wooden boat shaped like a long canoe.

The incident took place at location 02º 47.1’ N, 105º 07.6’ E off Pulau Damar, Indonesia. “The armed men tied the ship master, 2nd officer and the duty AB with ‘raffia’ strings,” ReCAAP ISC said commending the master for follow-up actions.

Soon after the pirates had left, the master broadcast the incident via the AIS to alert all vessels in the vicinity. None of the 28 crew was injured. AN LPG tanker has been raided and the crew robbed of cash and other belongings in the South China Sea.
