Jeffboat achieves safety milestone

Jeffersonville barge builder Jeffboat LLC reached a safety milestone June 1, when it hit one million hours without a lost-time injury, the company reported late Wednesday.

It is the second time that the subsidiary of American Commercial Lines Inc. (NASDAQ: ACLI) has achieved the milestone since it was founded in 1938, the company said in a news release.

Safety improvements at the shipyard were among the factors the University of Louisville Labor-Management Center cited in April when it awarded Jeffboat and Teamsters Local 89 the 16th annual Labor-Management Award.

Jeffboat is the nation’s largest inland shipbuilder and repair facility.
